My Background

Due to an early interest in humanities and then medicine, I trained as a psychiatrist. My broad experience practicing psychiatry in the hospital taught me that while conventional psychiatry has an impressive knowledge about neurophysiology and psychiatric medications, they overlooked the human psyche, passions and relationships – vital elements in not only relieving human suffering, but also development of human personality. Although important, the crucial thing in treatment is often not the precision of medication or the prestigious qualifications of the doctor, but the human quality of the physician-patient relationship. This leads to understanding and treatment of the person as a whole

In training, a teacher of mine shared the observation that traditional psychiatrists are so focused on getting the medications right and in process they get their patients wrong. So then along with my psychiatric training, I sought a specialization in relational psychotherapy and psychoanalysis which aims at understanding the whole person and providing long term cure.

Through collaborative efforts with my patients in psychotherapy, I assist them in identifying the underlying causes of their challenges and develop strategies to overcome them. As part of this process, I can cautiously prescribe medications and slowly discontinue them when needed.

"The medical diploma is no longer the crucial thing, but human quality instead."
